King of Hope
(Angelo Branduardi)

King of sound and of the silence
Who commands the leaves and flowers
King of seas and of the river
King of time and of ideas
King of sleep and of awakening
Renunciation and offear.
King of fable and of madness
King of everything am I
King of nothing am I
King of thunder and of sighing
Who commands the rocks and sand
King of smiles and sadly crying
In my fragility I am
King of mud and of the stars
Of wariness and belief
King of falsehood and of truth
King of everything am I
King of nothing am I
Tell me where to go as I don’t want to be an island
I could change myself and be some other
Tell me what to do as I know well I am unable
I could dream upon things that could be
Me and my castles in the air
Me king of hope
Me and my dreams
King of myself

The Time to come
(Angelo Branduardi)

Where does the snow tree grow
And where does it bloom?
Between silver palaces and white, white plains.
And where does the first morning mist vanish
And where am I now ?
And where does the dawn go
Together with a fast steed
And scent of flowers
And green growing grass?
And where will I find
The way I will follow
What will I be doing
With the time to come?
Sweetest my dream, reality where is it?
Sweetest my dream, reality where is it?
Happiness and sorrow walk hand in hand
And they dance together on the tips of their toes
And where does the snow tree grow
And where does it bloom?
Between silver palaces and white, white plains
and where does the first morning mist vanish
And where am I now?

Then ask the birds
(Angelo Branduardi - Paul Buckmaster)

Also ask the birds of the air
and they will tell you.

To create her eyes
(Angelo Branduardi)

To create her eyes he walked to the sea
And in a breath of wind he stopped to think
And her hair he said of sand I will make
Gold and precious silver to see it shine
And if she would like to dance on the shore
With those wet stones, feet for her I will make.
While the wind was carrying the clouds away
Her mouth he thought I will make with a flower
I planted on far lands a long time ago
Quartz and precious pearls to create her smile
And if she would like to have the world
With the form of the waves, hands for her I will make.
And from flying birds I will take the feathers
To create the skin of her face and wrists
And of the gazelles she will have the sweetness
And the fear of the hare
And the courage of the bear.
And I know so well
That meeting the love I have for her
Without hesitating
She will surely be knowing me.
And so from her sleep the maiden awakened
And all the kingdom was opened to her eyes
And so the man opened his arms and said
The world that you see has been waiting a long long time
And she already knew it
And she already knew.

Let me be
(Angelo Branduardi)

Let me be the band around your head
That is so near your thoughts
Let me be the grain of maize
That is cracked by your wild teeth.
Let me be the turquoise at your neck
Warmed by the storm of your blood.
Let me be the wool of the loom
That gently glides from your hand
Let me be the lace you wear
In the ebb and flow of your heart.
Let me be the sand in your shoes
That caresses the toes of your feet
Let me be your dream at night
When in your sleep you talk and moan.

Slowly
(Angelo Branduardi)

Then slowly you go down the hill
And whisper your words without sense;
I follow you as far as I can
And walk along as if I had no weight
Then slowly you open and withdraw
And quietly continue your dance,
While the thread you so sweetly unwind
Endlessly wraps and caresses me.
Oh my love, that is how I feel you breathing
And I know well what your fine breath is like,
When between reality and fantasy
The line we draw together is so slender.
Then slowly you move, and now your hands
Help me to understand what you say;
As long as time will come back
And bring to us what it can give, its barren gifts.
Then you look at me and I belong to you
You so small and I so far away:
I spy upon you while your eyes are clear
And they are gently looking for the shore.
Oh my love, that is how I feel you leaving
And I know well what your silence is like,
While between reality and helpless growing fantasy
The line that has been drawn is so heavy.

Story of my son
(Angelo Branduardi)

Then when you're talking of love
It is enough to look at you
And not to think
And from the bottom of my heart
Everything reaching the space
And flows away
Now in my sighs you lay down
And little by little you fall asleep
You open the palms of your hands
And a thick gentle rain
Is going to fall on you in a while
Will fall on me now that am near
And run over again one by one
The streets of sorrow and of joy
Upon which I have been walking
To come as far as you
And if ever the world will beat me down
So patiently and day by day
Now in your sleep you already walk
Along the ways of Galilee
together with him who will be born
Flowers are blooming from your skin
and from the bottom of my heart
We open the palms of our hands
And a dark gentle rain
Is going to fall on us in a while

And tomorrow won't be long
(Angelo Branduardi)

Child of the mine the river flows,
Goes beyond the bridge and flows;
Your reflection is your image,
Tomorrow won't be the same.
Child of mine what will you do?
How can you think you'll stop the sun?
Take this day and then another
Without hurry and never run.
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long.
Child of mine the time is yours,
Can be so much as you desire;
Look the clouds are coming back
With the fury of the fire.
Child of mine do not turn back
You know each day is like a flower;
Be careful how you pick it,
To keep it gentle hours.
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long
And tomorrow won't be long.
Nine months, a long time to pass
To smile at the colour of your eyes
Seeing your body growing into hers
And tomorrow won't be long.
Nine months a long day to pass;
I've been crossing the oceans to be able
To embrace your hands and her arms
And tomorrow won't be long

The thousand annum kingdom
(Angelo Branduardi)

It's true for a long time I've tried to cross the border
Holding my breath and searching for the way
But when even the last road was shut
I left the ship in port and now I'm walking.
In shares of glass my love was born
In gentle words I've told you of that
My voice now to you is singing my dreams
And you feel them inside
And don't refuse them.
And now I feel you really know me
When you search for me and I remain, waiting for a sign
And waiting is not heavy;
Above the trees the mountains are rising,
You take shelter in the wrinkles of your visions,
Along go to the thousand annum kingdom
And now you feel I really know you
When I search for you and you remain, waiting for a sign
And waiting makes you sad
And to the wind the fur trees bend their splendour
Your hands and arms becoming wings
You're flying to the thousand annum kingdom.
