Il Rovo e la Rosa rappresenta il punto d’incontro, la “saldatura”, fra la mia produzione per così dire “pop” ed il mio lavoro di ricerca sulla musica antica che ha prodotto, e continuerà a produrre, la collana “Futuro Antico”.

 

I brani dell’album appartengono alla stessa area musicale e geografica e, e dal punto di vista storico si possono collocare nell’epoca delle “ballads” del periodo elisabettiano. Alcuni dei titoli fanno parte del mio passato remoto, risalgono all’esordio della mia carriera e nel corso di questi anni li ho eseguiti innumerevoli volte, nelle più diverse versioni, tanto da sentirli “miei”, tanto da aver scordato gli originali.

 

Su questi titoli ho voluto compiere un lavoro di distruzione e ricostruzione, non solo musicale ma anche a livello del testo, per riportarli ad una versione filologica e nello stesso tempo inedita.

 

L’esempio più evidente è forse “Mary Hamilton” nel cui testo ricompaiono i cenni storici che all’epoca dei miei vent’anni non erano parsi interessanti e che ora affascinano, in quanto fanno di lei una donna di carne ed ossa, che ha realmente vissuto, che ha realmente sofferto.

 

E come lei reali sono tutti i protagonisti di queste storie, perché reali sono i loro sentimenti, primordiali, senza sfumature… sono marinai che si perdono, inseguendo il miraggio del passaggio al Polo, o donne fragili e forti, come la ragazza turca che attraversa il mare per reclamare il suo amore. Sono peccatori come Mary Hamilton, che abbandona il suo bambino e salirà al patibolo, o la moglie del falegname, che cedendo alla vanità dell’oro troverà la via dell’Inferno.

 

Sono “diversi” come Silkie, che sulla terra è uomo, ma in mare torna ad essere una creatura misteriosa e remota, o come la sorridente ragazza del ciliegio, la Rosa di Galilea che porta in sé il mistero più grande. Sono amanti disperati ed impossibili come Barbrie Allen ed il suo lord, amanti che solo la morte potrà unire…avvinti in un nodo d’amore, come IL ROVO E LA ROSA.

The bramble and the rose represent the meeting, that "welding" of my production, so-called "pop", with my research on ancient music, from which developed the series " Futuro Antico " and continue to evolve .

 

The album tracks are part of the same musical and geographical area, and from the perspective of history, they can be placed in the era of "ballads" of the Elizabethan period. Some of the titles are part of my distant past, going back to the beginning of my career and in the course of these years, I had run them numerous times, in so many different versions, that it feels as if they were "mine", so much, that I forgot the originals.

 

With this songs I wanted to achieve a work of destruction and reconstruction, not only musically, but also regarding the lyrics, to bring them to a philological and simultaneously unreleased version.

 

The most obvious example is perhaps “Mary Hamilton", in that text appear the historical notes again, which did not seem of interest in the time of my twenties, and which fascinate today, that made of her a woman of flesh and blood who had really lived, really suffered.

And for all protagonists of these stories are real, because their feelings are real, original, without shadows... There are sailors who are lost while chasing behind the mirage of the passage to the pole, or women, delicate and strong, like the Turkish girl who crossed the sea to regain her love. There are sinners like Mary Hamilton, who leaves her baby and then will go to the gallows, or the wife of a carpenter, who yields the vanity of gold and finds the way to hell.

 

They are "different" as Silkie which is human on earth, but in the sea returns to a mysterious prehistoric creature, or the smiling girl from the cherry tree, the Rose of Galilee, which carries the biggest mystery in itself. These are desperate lovers, impossible love, as Barbrie Allen and her Lord, beloved ones, that only death can unite... tied up in a knot of love, like the bramble and the rose.
